Failed MAGA gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is now running for US senator in Arizona, but with deep divisions in the Republican Party, she continues to struggle, as Democrat Ruben Gallego holds the lead against her and incumbent Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema in the polls.

After Donald Trump won in 2016, Arizona has turned blue, with Biden winning the state in 2020 and electing Democrat Katie Hobbs as governor in 2022. This string of big Republican defeats in the state highlighted the divide between the MAGA wing, led by Kari Lake and loyal to Donald Trump, and the McCain faction, which represents the more traditional Republicans.

Like her close ally, Donald Trump, Lake was very critical of the late Sen. John McCain when she ran for governor in 2022. However, the McCain Republicans instead supported her opponent, Democrat Katie Hobbs. Lake has since tried to make peace with the McCains to try and unite the state's Republican Party once more, but the late war hero's daughter is having none of it.

"Kari Lake is trying to walk back her continued attacks on my Dad (& family) and all of his loyal supporters after telling them to 'get the hell out,' wrote former "The View" host Meghan McCain on X. "Guess she realized she can't become a Senator without us, No peace, b*tch. We see you for who you are - and are repulsed by it."

This was a reference to what Kari Lake said during a 2022 campaign event as she was running for governor in Arizona, telling the crowd, "We don't have any McCain Republicans in here, do we? Get the hell out!" She also previously stated that the GOP "was the party of McCain. It was bad. Arizona has delivered some losers, haven't they?"

Kari Lake Fishing for Dirt Vs. Democrat Ruben Gallego

After her attempt at peace with the McCain family failed, Kari Lake has now turned her eye on attacking the candidate leading the polls in her race, Ruben Gallego, who is running against her and incumbent Independent Sen. Sinema as the next one to fill the seat previously held by John McCain.

In what Arizona Central has called a "cheap fishing expedition," Lake has reportedly asked a Yavapai County judge to open the sealed divorce records of Gallego and his former wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.

Gallego and his ex-wife quickly slammed the inquiry, with the Arizona Democratic Representative saying, "When she got into this race, I fully expected Kari Lake to go after me - but attacking my family is beyond the pale."

His ex, Mayor Kate Gallego, agreed, saying, "It's the worst kind of sleaze, and speaks volumes about the people who are behind this effort and those in the media who give it credibility and attention."

Kari Lake Struggles To Answer Questions About Her Claims About the 'Stolen Election' in Arizona

Kari Lake has also become infamous on the national stage for her insistence that the 2020 and 2022 elections were stolen, even though she does not have any evidence of such things happening. This was proven when she lost every single court case regarding the 2022 elections.

As she ran for the US Senate, she continued repeating these false claims and was recently confronted about them and struggled to answer questions. During an interview with a local Arizona FM station, KTAR News 92.3, the station's legal analyst, Barry Markson, confronted Lake about her claims, asking, "My question is, as you've been saying for three years, or for two years: can you tell us who stole the election from you and how they did it, and if you can't or you don't want to, that's OK, but I want to make sure the question is there in front of you."

"I don't know who exactly stole the election," she answered. "but there are a lot of people who are running elections poorly, and we've seen the result."
