PS4 vs Xbox One Games, Price, Comparison, Update: DualShock 4 Controller Now Backward-Compatible; GTA Preorders Down
The next-generation console war is a two-system race at this point (sorry, Nintendo!). The Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One are selling well, with the former comfortably ahead for now.
In a particularly exciting development, the DualShock 4 controller, with its intuitive touchpad, can now be used wirelessly on PS3 systems. Before the update, the DualShock had to be plugged in via its USB cable. Unfortunately, the controller's touchpad is not compatible with PS3 games, nor do the rumble or sixaxis features work.
Another important consideration is that when the DualShock 4 is hooked up with the PS3, it no longer works with the PS4 until it is unpaired and reconnected again. Still, despite the limitations this controller backward-compatibility update presents, it's still a wise move on Sony's end. It only helps extend the life of the venerable PS3.
Unfortunately, because next-generation systems like the PS4 and Xbox One have complex architecture, they still cannot play their predecessors' games. A push to bring these older games to the newer systems is underway. Sony and Microsoft are tweaking their HD video game streaming services; whether you will have to rebuy games you already own is another story.
In other next generation console news, "Grand Theft Auto V" preorder estimates are down, but you can't blame the quality of the game. The flagship version looks, plays and sounds better than ever. The PC version will pancake both the Xbox One and PS4 in terms of visual fidelity. However, exclusive content may be coming Microsoft's way.
