It is not just Mexico that was hit with weird weather, as hail soon pelted Texas soon after a scorching heatwave. However, the hail stones recorded were massive, including one that was reportedly the size of a pineapple and others the size of soda cans.

The biggest one in Texas was discovered by Oklahoma storm chasers Val and Amy Castor, who both work for the Oklahoma City television station KWTV. They discovered it along the Texas panhandle, and Val Castor stated that it was "about the size of a pineapple."

"That's the biggest hail I've ever seen, and I've been chasing storms for more than 30 years," he told the Associated Press, adding that it was so big that "I could see it from probably 100 yards away."

The massive hail stone is believed to have broken the state record in Texas as it measures over 7 inches long. This is larger than the previous record-holder found in Hondo, Texas back in 2021, which measured 6.4 inches. However, it is still not the biggest in the United States.

The heaviest on record in the US has a diameter of 11 inches, and it weighed in at almost 2 pounds. The National Centers for Environmental Information revealed that it was discovered in July 2010 near Vivian, South Dakota.

Castor noted that the massive piece of hailstone was discovered while they were chasing a major thunderstorm system. They found it near Vigo Park along with some baseball-sized hail stones, one of which managed to crack his windshield. This was when he spotted the big one in a ditch on the side of the road.

Border Patrol Agent in Texas Possibly Injured by a Tornado

Hail is not the only weather problem that Texas is currently facing, but also tornadoes and one just happened near the US-Mexico border, with some communities still clearing damage and debris caused by these weather phenomena.

Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland stated that a likely tornado hit the town of Sanderson and injured a US Border Patrol agent. The agent's house reportedly took a direct hit from the tornado, leading to his injury, according to Fox Weather.

The sheriff also confirmed that everyone in the town "has been accounted for, and all roads have been cleared of debris."

The Weird Weather in Texas Mixes Heat Waves, Hail, and Tornadoes

The weird weather in Texas has seen record temperature swings as after a massive heat wave, temperatures fell more than 50 degrees in Marathon, Texas on Wednesday, going from 105 degrees Fahrenheit to the mid-50s in just one hour, according to ABC News.

The town was buried in two feet of hail, with other weird weather phenomena also happening all over the state. Wilson Texas recorded about 2 1/2 inches of rain on Thursday, with tornadoes touching down in the south.
