Spongebob Squarepants Online 2014: Movie Sequel to Feature Aquatic Hero Out of Water; Krusty Krab Comes to Palestine
A decade ago everyone's favorite underwater sponge appeared for the first time on the big screen alongside the likes of David Hasselhoff. Now, a sequel is in the works that will continue SpongeBob's adventures, this time quite possibly out of the water.
"The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" will be released on Feb. 6, 2015 and will bring back all of the shows' favorite characters to movie theaters around the world. FirstShowing reports that "SpongeBob" writer Paul Tibbit will direct the movie and its script will be written by "Kung Fu Panda 2" writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger.
Tibbit wrote the Nickelodeon cartoon from 1999 to 2004 and became a supervising producer from 2005 and then executive producer from 2007 on. Tibbit's directorial debut should be seen as a beneficial thing for the movie since his heavy involvement in the show and a key player in its development guarantees that the movie will be just as interesting and bizarre as the episodes.
Some of the show's veterans will be making their appearances in the movie like Tom Kenny as SpongeBob and Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star. However, celebrities will also make appearances, though it is not clear what roles some will play. Antonio Banderas and ex-Guns N Roses guitarist Slash have both been confirmed, according to ContactMusic, and Banderas will play both a live-action and cartoon pirate.
Although the 2004 movie had some moments when SpongeBob and Patrick were above water and interacted with the real-life world, they remained cartoons. However, after the release of the movie's poster, there could be the possibility that the movie will be part cartoon and part live-action, or in the case of the fictional characters, CGI. The poster's byline, "He's leaving his world behind," supports the idea that Spongebob will leave Bikini Bottom for the above-water world.
However, many aspects of the TV show have already left Bikini Bottom and are becoming reality, including a real-life Krusty Krab restaurant in Palestine.
