The shooting attack on former President Donald Trump has led to widespread condemnation from Republicans and Democrats alike. However, some GOP members and allies of the convicted felon former president blamed it on Democrats, especially President Joe Biden.

One of the first to react was Trump's own political opponent for November, Joe Biden, who quickly condemned the attack on his rival, asking the public to cool down the discourse and calling for unity in this trying time, as well as condemning political violence of any kind, no matter who the target is.

"I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania," he said shortly after the shooting. "I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well. I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There's no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it."

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris released a statement, saying, "We are praying for him, his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting. ... Violence such as this has no place in our nation. We must all condemn this abhorrent act and do our part to ensure that it does not lead to more violence."

"As one whose family has been the victim of political violence, I know firsthand that political violence of any kind has no place in our society," said former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referencing the attack by a Trump supporter on her husband, Paul Pelosi. "I thank God that former President Trump is safe. As we learn more details about this horrifying incident, let us pray that all those in attendance at the former president's rally today are unharmed."

This is despite the fact that Trump himself made fun of the attack on Paul Pelosi and continued to use the incident to lambast Nancy Pelosi.

"Although we don't yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn't seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics," wrote former President Barack Obama. "Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery."

Republicans React to Donald Trump Shooting

"Karen and I are praying for President Trump and urge every American to join us," said Trump's former Vice President, Mike Pence. This is despite Trump urging his supporters to hang him for choosing the Constitution over Trump.

However, some Republicans used the incident as an opportunity to politicize it and attack Biden, with Trump VP hopeful JD Vance claiming, "The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination."

As the Washington Post noted, while 238 Republicans expressed sympathy, 21 blamed Trump critics, while another 8 blamed Biden. This is on top of Trump being active in urging political violence against his opponents in the first place.

World Leaders Also React to Donald Trump Shooting

Global leaders also expressed their solidarity with Trump, though Argentina's Javier Milei used this as a chance to do some political mudslinging, saying, "In panic of losing at the polls, they resort to terrorism to impose their backward and authoritarian agenda."

Meanwhile, Brazil's Lula stated that the shooting "must be strongly condemned by all defenders of democracy and political dialogue," while Canada's Minister Justin Trudeau said he was "sickened" by the shooting.

President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador stated, "There is no place for violence in a democracy," while NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg stressed that "Allies stand together to defend our freedom and values."
