Devyn García, Adriana Lima, and More Models Bring Latin Flavor to Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
In 2019, lingerie brand Victoria's Secret decided to cancel its iconic Angels fashion show after facing backlash over its lack of size diversity and restrictive beauty standards. Five years later (and following a pandemic), the brand is set to relaunch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with a mega spectacle on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. This event aims to prove that the brand remains a major force in the fashion world.
Alongside familiar faces like Tyra Banks, who announced the new show with Gigi Hadid, the event will showcase a strong lineup of Latin talent. Leading the charge is the return of Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima, along with a new generation of models who proudly represent their Latin roots.
Among them is Paloma Elsesser, a model of Afro-American and Chilean descent. She is known for championing body diversity with her curvy figure, which has garnered fans around the world. Elsesser, who has worked with brands like Nike, Fenty Beauty, and Glossier, expressed her pride in being an ambassador for alternative beauty standards. "I like the idea of creating an open space for those who feel underrepresented in media and advertising, and inviting them to share it," she told Vogue in an interview. Joining Elsesser and Lima, two other Latina models will don the legendary Victoria's Secret wings this Tuesday: Cuban-American model Devyn García and Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio. At just 23 years old, Miami Beach-born García has already worked with major brands such as Valentino, Chloé, Gabriela Hearst, Jacquemus, Altuzarra, and Alexander McQueen. Sampaio, meanwhile, made history at the last Victoria's Secret show in 2019 by becoming the first openly transgender model to walk the runway. Since then, she has also worked with brands like L'Oréal Paris, Marc Jacobs, Dior, H&M, and Moschino.
In addition to the models, this year's event will feature an all-female lineup of musical performers, headlined by none other than Cher. The iconic singer and actress will bring her timeless style to an event that seeks to bridge the gap between Victoria's Secret's storied past and its evolving future. Cher will be joined by performances from Tyla and Lisa, and there is speculation that Chappell Roan, who provided the soundtrack for Banks and Hadid's invitation announcement, may also make an appearance.
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in New York City, starting at 7 p.m. ET, with the pink carpet scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. For the first time, fans will be able to watch the show live on social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, as well as on Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Live.
