The Taiwanese developer of smartphones and tablets, HTC, aims to work its way back into the competitive market of high-end smartphones following the strong release of Samsung's Galaxy earlier this May. Its other Silicon Valley rival, Apple, is also expected to make another impact with a speculated release of the iPhone 6 in September. In an effort to maintain its competitiveness in the market, HTC retools its best product yet -- the HTC One M8 by fitting it with a plastic chassis instead of using metal, making it cheaper to produce. The company hopes this will allow easier access to the lower end markets.

HTC's smartphones have long enjoyed high ratings from both tech reviews and users despite not-so-extravagant marketing when compared to its rivals Apple and Samsung.

The HTC One (M8), released on March 2014, is equipped with Android 4.4 KitKat and features a 5-inch screen with a 441 PPI screen pixel density, making it a 1080p HD display. The latest phone boasts a CPU speed of 2.3 GHZ with 2,047 MB of RAM, giving it an edge on performance over most other smartphones. While the rear camera has only 4 megapixels despite the front camera having 5, the primary camera is an HTC 4 UltraPixel camera, which, according to the manufacturers, uses a unique CMOS sensor that allows it to capture high quality images comparable to those with 8 or 13 megapixels. The device has the base price of $665.

HTC's second best product is the HTC One that was released back in April. The HTC One also runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with a CPU speed of 1.7 GHZ and 2,048 MB RAM. It has a 4.7-inch LCD screen and a 468 PPI screen density with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, giving it an HD 1080p screen. Like the HTC One (M8), it has an HTC 4 UtlraPixel primary rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front camera. This phone has a price tag of $395.

Coming in third is the HTC Butterfly S, released back in July 2013 and available for $565. It has a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,090 pixels at 440 PPI density. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with processing speed of 1.9 GHZ and RAM of 2,048 MB.
