Killadamente's Family and Followers Pay Their Respects in Final Goodbye of Dominican Influencer
Her funeral, financed by GoFundMe, created controversy regarding the family's economic situation.
The sudden passing of Carol Acosta, known online as Killadamente, has deeply impacted the online community. Acosta, who died at 27, was given an emotional farewell during a private funeral in New York. The ceremony was funded by donations from her followers.
Katyan Acosta, Killadamente's sister, shared images of the wake on social media. The ceremony, complete with a coffin surrounded by floral wreaths, was filled with songs and prayers.
The family publicly expressed gratitude to those who contributed financially to ensure a dignified funeral.
"Thank you to everyone who donated through GoFundMe and allowed us to give my sister a proper farewell. God bless you," Katyan wrote on Instagram. Her statement sparked mixed reactions among Killadamente's followers.
The fundraising effort ignited a debate on social media, with some questioning why an influencer with millions of followers needed donations for a funeral. Others defended the initiative, emphasizing that fame doesn't always equate to financial stability.
One follower commented: "She was famous, but she had no savings, and funerals in the U.S. are incredibly expensive, as her sister said." Another added: "She did have money at one point, but she ended up broke because she wasn't good at managing it. She spent everything she earned and was also very generous, helping those in need."
The tragic circumstances of her death
Preliminary reports state that the influencer choked while dining at a restaurant on January 3. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Killadamente rose to fame in 2015 by sharing content about self-love, confidence, and humor. Her authenticity and positive messages helped her connect with over 6.5 million Instagram followers.
She collaborated with popular brands like FashionNova and Shein.
Beyond her social media presence, Carol ventured into music in 2017, releasing empowerment-themed songs such as 'Me amo y no me importa' and 'Qué me hiciste hacer.'
Her journey was one of personal triumph. In a 2017 interview with Primer Impacto, she revealed that she had faced bullying and depression due to her weight. "I used to avoid many things, I was scared, and I felt terrible about how people treated me," she said, even admitting to two suicide attempts.
Despite these struggles, Carol transformed her pain into a platform to inspire others, using her influence to promote self-acceptance and love, especially among Latina women.
