iOS 8 Beta, Download, Features, Release Date & Rumors: Health App to Feature Step Counter, Caffeine Tracker
Apple's iOS 8 probably has many fitness enthusiasts excited for its release. That's because with the new HealthKit app, they'll be able to track their fitness, their heart rate and more.
With the release of the third beta version of iOS 8, we're seeing more of the capabilities of the HealthKit app. When iOS 8 is released, users will be able to automatically log their steps taken and also manually log the amount of caffeine consumed throughout the day, according to 9to5 Mac.
The step tracker will work automatically with the iPhone 5S' internal processor to track a user's steps. The next iPhone to be released will likely have the same feature to enable the step tracking. This is a nice built-in pedometer that enourages users to get up and move around.
Next, HealthKit will have a caffeine tracker feature. This feature won't be automatic. Users will have to type in the amount of caffeine or type of caffeine (coffee, energy drink, caffeine pill, etc.) into the app or use a third party caffeine tracker app like "Up Coffee."
The HealthKit app is expected to work well with other fitness apps that help users keep track of their weight, workouts, calories burned, body fat percentage and more. It's expected to have a heart rate monitor, a blood pressure monitor and maybe a water consumption monitor.
The step counter addition to HealthKit is nice to hear from Apple. They previewed the newest iOS 8 and announced the HealthKit app over a month ago, and there was no mention of a step counter.
The caffeine tracker is a fun little addition. It can tell users when they are running low on caffeine and when it's time to drink another cup of coffee. It can also tell them when they've had too much and to stop drinking caffeine for the rest of the day.
When Apple finally releases their version of a smartwatch, the HealthKit app will be especially useful and it could even have more features. We'll have to wait and see!
