'Sam & Cat' on Nickelodeon: Show Featuring Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy is Officially Canceled
Nickelodeon's hit show "Sam & Cat," starring Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy, has officially been cancelled after one season.
"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of 'Sam & Cat,'" the network said in a statement obtained by Deadline. "We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast, and we wish them all the best."
The series' final episode titled "#Getting Wiggy" is already being promoted on Nickelodeon and will air July 17, Hollywood Life reported.
Prior to the cancellation announcement, there were rumors of an on-going feud between McCurdy and Grande over Grande's rising stardom, larger salary and Nickelodeon's alleged favoritism toward the "Problem" singer.
The rumored tension between the two ladies was believed to be the reason for postponed production on Season 2 of "Sam & Cat."
Back in April, McCurdy added fuel to the rumors by not showing up with Grande to this year's Kids' Choice Awards and later tweeting about Nickelodeon's "unfair treatment."
"I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing. I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, McCurdians and Arianators alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first," McCurdy tweeted about her absence at the 2014 Kids' Choice Awards.
She then went on to clarify that her Twitter rant was in reference to "how nickelodeon treated me. That's all. Thanks for the love."
According to Hollywood Life, Grande also thanked fans in a TwitLonger letter following the "Sam & Cat" cancellation news. She thanked Nickelodeon for introducing her to her fans and thanked the show's creator, Dan Schneider, for allowing her to play "such a special, beautiful character."
She wrote, "... [T]hank you to my fans who have been with me since all of this started... you are the most loyal, dedicated and continuously loving supporters I could ever imagine. We've been through so much and you are still here... and we've got a long way to go. :)
"Thank you for believing in me, accepting me and loving me. I love you forever."
