Oscar Pistorius Fight: 'Blade Runner' Involved in Verbal Argument With Man at a Nightclub
Oscar Pistorius was involved in a verbal fight about his trial with a man at a nightclub in Johannesburg Saturday, his spokeswoman confirmed.
Pistorius is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He was at the VIP Room nightclub Saturday night when he was engaged by another man, his spokeswoman said. The South African Press (Sapa) reported the man to be Jared Mortimer.
The spokeswoman for Pistorius, Anneliese Burgess, said that Mortimer "aggressively engaged" Pistorius about his murder trial.
"We can confirm that Oscar was at the said venue with one of his cousins," Burgess said.
Burgess continued to describe the event that occurred Saturday night. She said that Pistorius and his cousin sat in a quiet area of the club, at a VIP table. She said that they were approached by Mortimer.
"The individual, according to my client, started to aggressively interrogate him on matters relating to the trial. An argument ensued during which my client asked to be left alone," Burgess said.
Burgess concluded that her client left the nightclub and said he regretted causing unnecessary negative attention by visiting the public place.
The nightclub incident comes just days after Pistorius' murder trial had adjourned. The trial will continue again Aug. 7.
South African news site Eyewitness News (EWN) reported that Mortimer claimed Pistorius was drunk and insulted him and his friends before poking him on the chest.
Mortimer said he pushed Pistorius, causing him to fall back onto his feet and onto a chair. The fight was quickly broken up by bouncers at the club, according to EWN.
Officials from the club have denied the incident took place. They knew Pistorius was at their club but say nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Spokesman for the club Perry Mermigas was at the club and agreed with officials.
"(Pistorius) was there but there was no altercation and if there had been, we would have known about it," he said.
Sunday morning, Pistorius posted on Twitter for the first time in five months. He posted pictures of him and other young amputees as well as Bible passages.
