Televisa vs. Telemundo 2014: Lucero Moves to Telemundo for New Reality Competition Show
Lucero is making a big career change after 33 years with Televisa.
The singer and actress is leaving Televisa, which is where many of Univision's telenovelas come from, and heading to Telemundo. She will be hosting "Yo Soy El Artista," where she may also have some influence over who gets to stay or go, notes TV Notas.
The new show will air on Sunday during prime time. The show will have contestants sing, dance and entertain, and the competition will be 13 weeks long. Contestants were chosen from the United States and Puerto Rico.
"I am extremely happy to be the host of 'Yo Soy el Artista,'" said Lucero. "It is a powerful reality concept with all the necessary ingredients to discover great new talent and develop them. I love that aspect of the show. These types of programs are attractive for the audience and very important for so many artists who are waiting for a great opportunity. I also am thrilled to work with such a great team of professionals who are fully committed to such an important project."
Jesus Torres Viera, who is the EVP of Programming at Telemundo, added that Lucero, who has had a varied career, was the perfect choice as a host.
"Lucero embodies the essence of what we call a true Artist," Viera said. "Her successful career in acting, singing and performing, together with her charismatic and charming on-stage persona make her the ideal MC for this revolutionary show."
The show was announced earlier this year, and contestants were able to audition through yosoyelartista.com, as well as through auditions in Miami, Chicago, Houston, New York, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico.
Viera explained that being able to win this competition meant that a person was able to deal with obstacles and long day, and that their ultimate goal was to find people who were dedicated.
