T-Mobile's Cheap Family Plan Woos Customers From Rival Carriers
T-Mobile has introduced a new limited time family plan that will beat rivals AT&T, Sprint and Verizon's prices by $60. The family plan will start at $100 a month and will include 10 gigabytes (GB) of data, unlimited talk/text, tethering, and unlimited talk/data/text in over 120 countries.
The plan will go in effect July 30 through September.
T-Mobile's plan is cheaper than their rivals' plans and it comes with more. With no roaming charges and overages to worry about, T-Mobile has the upper hand with this plan, and there's no contract required either.
In the fine print, the plan's data does change to 4 GB of data per month (1 GB per person) in January of 2016, but if a customer wants to switch, they won't be in a contract so it will be easy.
Over a two year period, the savings afforded by this new plan compared to T-Mobile's rivals' plans amounts to $1,440. Most companies require customers to sign 2-year contracts when they sign up for wireless service, T-Mobile recently got rid of contracts.
AT&T is calling their family plans "Best-Ever Pricing." T-Mobile responded to AT&T's claims through their media relations webpage and John Legere, President and CEO of T-Mobile, said "I had to laugh," when he saw the ads.
This isn't the first time Legere has taken to the Internet to trash his competitors. In June he said this:
These high and mighty duopolists that are raping you for every penny you have, if they could do something nice for you they would. The (expletive) hate you.
T-Mobile sure looks like it is trying to sway customers to sign up with them instead of the "Big Three" companies. With aggressive advertising on TV and now Legere's comments and tweets, they won't be going down without a fight.
