According to LA Times, last weekend's box office is a testament to prove that brains prevail over brawn, as the action-thriller "Lucy" featuring Scarlett Johansson garnered $44 million in sales, easily defeating "Hercules" with Dwanye "The Rock" Johnson, which collected only $29 million.

Despite the box office accomplishment, reviews do not reflect the same success. "Hercules" actually got a higher rating from Rotten Tomatoes, at 61 percent, while "Lucy" is just 3 points off at 58 percent. Still, the film was praised for delivering its promised action and adventure-packed entertainment.

The film is about a slacker American who has come to Taiwan to party with Johansson in the title role as "Lucy." That was basically her life until the Korean godfather Mr. Jang, played by Min-sik Choi, turned her into a drug mule to transport the highly valuable super drug called CPH4.

However, the drugs that were surgically implanted leaks inside of her, affecting her brain and giving her the processing capabilities of a computer for thought and an assortment of superhuman powers. She acquires enhanced physical capabilities and powerful mental skills, including mental time travel and telekinesis. Lucy also has control over her body to not feel pain or other discomfort.

Professor Norman, portrayed by Morgan Freeman, guides the audience through the fictional scientific journey, explaining how only 10 percent of the human brain is utilized and how the rest of the 90 percent holds amazing potential. However, the 10 percent brain functionality concept has been debunked and downgraded from a scientific exposition to a simple myth, Citizen-Times reported.

"Lucy" was written and directed by French film director, producer and writer Luc Besson who has been known for creating some of the most memorable female action characters in the history of cinema, including "The Professional" and "La Femme Nikita." He mentioned the possibility of creating a sequel depending on the success of the film.
