''The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies' Trailer Update & Cast 2014:' Trailer Released, Comic-Con Panel Online [Watch]
The first trailer for "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" was released on Monday.
The trailer shows Smaug destroying Lake-town, Gandalf the Grey having taken a beating, and it provides a look at several combatants in the titular battle, which includes men, elves, dwarves and Orcs.
"The Lord of the Rings" character Pippin is featured singing "Edge of the Night."
The YouTube video describes the third installment in the series as an "epic conclusion."
"Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world," the description reads. "Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town."
Thorin is shown with treasure, and the dwarves are wearing new armor. But it won't be smooth sailing for them, as Thorin is blinded by the treasure.
And that's not their only problem.
"Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legion of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain," according to the description.
If the trailer is not enough to keep you entertained, then perhaps the San Diego Comic-Con presentation will be. The 49-minute video is now online, noted Entertainment Weekly.
Stephen Colbert serves as the moderator for the event. Colbert is a big fan and came out in attire that Lake-town residents would wear. He told Peter Jackson that he was originally dubious about his making the "The Lord of the Rings" series.
Now, he has a different problem with the movies.
"The only problem I saw was at a total of 11 ½ hours, they were too damn short," he said.
Elijah Wood once again admitted to not having read the books. Colbert responded by asking if Wood knew how to read.
