Peter Pan Live Cast 2014: 'Girls' Actor Allison Williams to Star as Peter Pan [Watch]
The upcoming television event "Peter Pan Live!" now has its Peter Pan. The actor who will play the eternal child has been announced by her very own father.
Allison Williams, who plays Marnie Michaels in the HBO series "Girls," will be playing J.M. Barrie's titular character in NBC's upcoming television event, according to TV Guide.
"Allison Williams is a major find," executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "She will reinvent the iconic role of Peter Pan with her wit, her warmth, her dynamic flying and her wonderful musical abilities. The score will be sung beautifully and introduced to a whole new generation of families."
Williams expressed her happiness as well as her long-standing desire to play the famous children's literature character.
"I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true," Williams said, according to TV Guide. "It's such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I'm very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. What could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?"
She will be playing Peter Pan opposite Christopher Walken, who will star as the villainous Captain Hook, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Among those congratulating Williams is her "Girls" co-star Lena Dunham, who tweeted, "Allison is about to undertake one of the greatest drag roles in history and we are so proud we could burst. She will slay," according to HollywoodLife.
Adding to the news was the curious incident of Williams' father, NBC News anchor Brian Williams, announcing her casting, according to the New York Daily News.
"Family members confirm she's been rehearsing for this role since the age of three, and they look forward to seeing her fly," the veteran newscaster said on "NBC Nightly News."
