'Into the Woods' Disney Live-Action Movie: Broadway Musical Adaptation Starring Meryl Streep & Johnny Depp Gets Christmas Release Date [Trailer]
Disney's highly anticipated musical movie "Into the Woods," based on the Broadway musical with the same name, has just released its first official trailer. According to Forbes, the film features a star-studded cast that includes Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine, among others.
"Into the Woods" was first performed in 1986 with the composition of Stephen Sondheim involving different characters from classic fairy tales, such as Cinderella, the big bad wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, The Witch, Jack and other well-known characters.
While the film targets those who are familiar with the musical, as previously done with other adaptations such as "Phantom of the Opera" and "Rent", the producers are hoping to gain the interest of general movie-goers as well, especially with that line-up of actors.
Another point of interest is how Johnny Depp would look playing the role of the Wolf. The musical part might come in the following trailers since the production team knows that they have already captured the attention of the musical's fans.
Despite being a musical, the trailer does not feature a single note from the songs that will be featured in the film, but it does show Chris Pine as the Prince, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella as well as some of the other characters. The trailer begins with these characters making wishes followed by the line "be careful what you wish for."
It primarily revolves around the story of the baker and his wife who have been cursed by a Witch to be childless. They embark on a journey into the woods in search of the objects that they need to break the spell. The story develops with the introduction of the different characters from the various Grimm fairy tales.
"Into the Woods" is scheduled to be released in theaters on Christmas Day this year. It is the first live-action movie adaptation by Disney of a Broadway musical.
