Gears of War 4 for Xbox One: Microsoft Purchased Franchise From Epic Games; Production Underway, GameSpot Reports
Developed by Black Tusk, the next Gears of War game for the Xbox One will remain true to the essence of the original game, according to producer Rod Fergusson. He also asserts that the developer has a legitimate claim over the game's IP, GameSpot reports.
He said that before they do things differently, they want to show that Black Tusk knows how to do it right. While he did not share any details about the game and where and when the universe of the next Gears of War will be, he did admit that there were many unanswered questions in the previous games that left big gaps in the timeline.
Fergusson worked on the first two installations of the Gears of War games as an executive producer, and then he also worked on Gears of War 3 as director of production. In 2012, he joined Irrational Games after leaving Epic Games.
In the new game developing company, he also helped the team with another popular title in BioShock Infinite. Before moving to Black Tusk where he is now working, he launched 2K, a new studio in the San Francisco area which he eventually left as well.
GameSpot reports that the franchise of the title was purchased by Microsoft earlier this year from Epic Games for an undisclosed amount. In a previous announcement, Hanno Lemke, general manager of Black Tusk Studios, said that they would be "collaborating closely" with Epic in its venture to provide fans of the popular game with high quality gaming experience.
Not a lot of information has been shared by the companies involved in the production of the next Gears of War, but Microsoft should be sharing its plans sometime this year. Still, no date has been given as to when the next installment will be released. What is known is that production is already on its way.
