BioShock for iOS: 'Premium' Priced Game Coming to iPad 4, iPad Mini 2, iPad Air, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S
The popular franchise created by video game developer Irrational Games is coming to Apple devices this summer as BioShock makes its way to iOS as a "premium priced" game, GameSpot reported.
According to publishers 2K Games and Irrational, BioShock on iOS will follow the original storyline and the first-person shooter gameplay as confirmed by both companies. The game will take place in the underwater city of Rapture.
BioShock is known for being one of the best games in the first-person shooter category, earning a score of 9.0 out of 10 from GameSpot. Since its release in 2007, it has been regarded as one of the most memorable titles in the last generation of video game consoles.
While the game has experienced downgrades in the early build because of the obvious constraints of the mobile devices, reviews say that the experience is still very faithful to the original game.
The less powerful capabilities of Apple devices compared with the full processing powers of the consoles makes the dip in quality in terms of lighting and shadows, textures and sounds more understandable and acceptable. Nonetheless, as a "premium" game, BioShock on iOS is still an impressive accomplishment for mobile gaming.
Another thing to note is the shift from a full handheld remote to touch-screen. Again, Gamespot found that the controls worked surprisingly well in terms of navigating the underwater world of the game and switching between powers and weapons. However, it sounds like combat play, especially the more difficult levels, could use some fine-tuning.
BioShock will be available on the iPad 4, iPad Mini 2, iPad Air, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 5S. The iOS version of the game will not be built by the original developer Irrational but the job has been given to 2K China as Irrational announced earlier this year that it would be "winding down."
