'The Inbetweeners 2' Movie Cast & Release Date: Teen Backpacking Film Spinoff Visits Australia, 'Sex Capital of the World'
Three years after the first "The Inbetweeners" movie, where the four socially-troubled 18-year-old boys traveled together for a holiday, the gang returns for a second film where they will be heading to Australia, which they call the "sex capital of the world."
According to The Independent, reviews call this sequel to the 2011 box office hit "cheery," "unremittingly crude" and "intermittently hilarious." The guys playing the lead characters who are in their late teens are actually played by actors who are between 26 and 30 years old. The film is a spinoff based on the popular Channel 4 British sitcom with the same name that ran from 2008 to 2010.
The story begins when Jay, who is enjoying his gap-year, invites his friends Neil, Simon and Will to join him in Australia, promising the group that it is "the sex capital of the world." It is an offer that the three could not refuse with their lives now duller than ever.
Once again, the boys put growing up on hold as they embark on an adventurous backpacking holiday. Will finds himself in conflict with the group's interests of girls, drinking and annoying their fellow travelers, as he wants to do something more cultural.
According to The Telegraph, towards the latter part of the film, the four find themselves alone in the Outback. Noises in the background eventually fade down to nothingness, leading the theme momentarily to the likes of Waiting for Godot -- except that there is lots of toilet humor and gay panic that ensues between the lead characters.
"The Inbetweeners 2" relies on the comedic process of attrition where gags come one after the other. If one fails, another follows immediately until it becomes funny. The film was released on Aug. 6 in the U.K. starring Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas as the four lead characters.
