One of the news items that got fans excited at the San Diego Comic-Con 2014 last month was Starz's "Outlander." The panel for the show that is based on the popular book series by Diana Gabaldon with the same name was held in a room with a capacity of just barely more than a thousand people. However, the fans who stood in line outside the venue quickly filled the room to its maximum capacity, and their total number could have filled a room that was three times bigger, Mashable reports.

The series premiere of "Outlander" had garnered almost a million views just a week after it was made available online, according to Starz. It features the main character Claire Randall, portrayed by Cairtriona Balfe, and her husband Frank Randall, played by Tobias Menzies, enjoying their second honeymoon.

Following the end of World War II, the couple takes the opportunity to rekindle their love after five years of having few chances of seeing each other and little time to live their lives as a married couple. Frank also learns more about his past as the two also got to know more about themselves and who they have become over their years of being apart.

After their time together and the getting-to-know session, Claire once again finds herself transported to sometime in the mid-18th century. She runs into one of her husband's ancestors who almost harmed her before she was saved by a Highlander who actually had the intention of kidnapping her instead of saving her.

"Outlander" initially appears to be a show to satisfy the book readers but it has captured the interest of casual observers as well. As a standalone show, the premiere episode shows promise to prove that the television series could be just as good as the books.

The show premiered on Aug. 9.
