The Lakers may be coming off their worst season in franchise history, but expectations are always high in Laker land. The Lakers hired Byron Scott as their new head coach on July 28. Scott was a terrific player with the Lakers in the '80s as well as a great head coach in New Jersey. With the Nets, Scott led the team to two consecutive NBA Finals.

Despite not getting Carmelo Anthony, Lance Stephenson or Chris Bosh, the Lakers did trade for Jeremy Lin.

The 25-year-old point guard will be playing alongside Kobe Bryant. Bryant will be entering his 19th season in the NBA, and he will need Lin's services all season long. If the Lakers coaching staff implements Lin into the starting lineup and uses him correctly, he could be an All-Star next season.

Lin has never played in the annual All-Star game before in his career. Playing in the Western Conference will always be tough because you have great guards, such as Chris Paul III, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook and more, but his popularity and play could lead to a selection.

Although Steve Nash is considered one of the best point guards of the modern era, he is now 40 years old. Eventually, or maybe right out of the gate, the Lakers will use Nash more for his mental abilities than his physical talents. Lin only started 33 games last season, so his chances of making the All-Star were slim. Nash could teach Lin a lot about the point guard position.

With the new acquisition of Carlos Boozer, the Lakers will get more second chance opportunities. Boozer is a great rebounder, and pairing him with Jordan Hill, the Lakers offense might be set for a good inside game. Nick Young could be Lin's best friend next season. The 29-year-old shooting guard is the best three point shooter currently on the Lakers roster. With Lin drawing double teams driving to the basket, he could get a lot assists kicking it back out to the perimeter.

Even with Lin, the Lakers still have a tough rough ahead. Bryant's health is still in question, and the Western Conference is tough to win in.

Lin's chances of making next year's All-Star game could be fueled by the fact that he's a dual threat point guard. He's a gifted passer who can find the open man when necessary. Combined with that, Lin can also score at a much higher rate than most point guards can. The NBA is one of the most internationally successful leagues in the world, and with Lin playing in Los Angeles votes, possibilities are endless.

If Lin can play at the high level he's capable of for the entire season, there's no reason to believe he won't be selected to next season's All-Star Game.
