Jack Nicholson Retired From Acting? Maria Shriver Says Rumors Are False
"You can't handle the truth!" Apparently people can't. Especially when it may not be true at all.
After Radar Online reported that Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson was retiring from acting due to memory loss, NBC's Maria Shriver has confirmed to E! News that these reports are completely false. According to Shriver, Nicholson has no plans to retire and is not suffering from dementia or any memory-related illness. According E!, another source has said that the 76-year-old actor is currently reading scripts and is ready for his next project.
Radar Online reported yesterday that a "well-placed Hollywood insider" confirmed that Nicholson had retired from acting without fanfare.
"There is a simple reason behind his decision - it's memory loss," the source reportedly told Radar. "Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him. His memory isn't what it used to be."
Whether Shriver or Radar Online is correct about Nicholson's supposed retirement remains to be seen, as the actor has yet to comment on rumors. In his 55-year career in movies, Nicholson has been nominated for 12 Oscars, making him the most nominated male actor in Academy Awards history. He has won three awards: for Best Actor in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "As Good As It Gets," and Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Terms of Endearment."
Nicholson's other memorable movies include "The Shining," "Chinatown," "Easy Rider," "Batman," "A Few Good Men," "About Schmidt" and "The Departed." The last movies he appeared in were 2007's "The Bucket List" with Morgan Freeman and 2010's "How Do You Know," alongside Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd.
Although Nicholson hasn't appeared in any movies since then, he has recently been seen at Lakers games and he co-presented the Academy Award for Best Picture with First Lady Michelle Obama at the Oscars earlier this year.
