Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. began auditions for the 13th season of "American Idol" in Boston on Tuesday. The three judges will try their best to bring "American Idol" back to the success it once knew.

The first round of auditions for the 2014 season of "American Idol" began at the Boston Marriot Copley Place. According to the Boston Globe, the judges were "lighthearted" and "fielded questions and poked fun at one another in their first meeting with the press."

Urban served as a judge on the previous season of "American Idol" and was happy to renew the role. Lopez, on the other hand, was a judge on season 10 of the singing competition show, but left after two seasons in 2012 in order to go on tour.

"I did miss it," Lopez said. "I don't know what's going to happen, but I know we're going to have a great time, and we're already off to a great start."

Connick Jr. is a virgin to the "Idol" judging game. This is will be his first time on the judges panel.

"I have always been a huge fan of 'American Idol' and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show, and I am honored that they've asked me to be a judge this season," Connick Jr. said. "As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to 'American Idol' and to help emerging performers find their way."

Urban and Lopez seem like they will have fun teaching Connick Jr. the ropes of being an excellent judge. "Yeah, shut the hell up," Urban said when asked if Lopez and himself had any advice for Connick Jr.

"Less talking," Lopez said in agreement.

Lopez and Connick Jr. already have a bit of a bond as both celebrities appeared on the same episode of NBC's "Will & Grace."

During the judges' time in Boston, the press asked the judges if they would be performing together, as previous "American Idol" judges have often done. "Are we talking music still?" Connick Jr. said. "The idea of us performing together would be phenomenal. You're talking about two of the greatest performers on the planet."

"And me," Urban added.

According to Urban, the new judges make "a great little trio." "I'm a fan of the show," Connick Jr. said. "I've seen it for the last 12 years, and I feel that the three of us can do our part to make the show as great as we know 'American Idol' can be."

Season 13 of "American Idol" premieres in January.
