New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner's miserable summer didn't get any better yesterday as he found himself surrounded by cameras in a Brooklyn bakery while he argued with a man who yelled at him for being "married to an Arab," referring to Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin.

The man had called Weiner a "scumbag," prompting Weiner to respond by saying, "Very nice, that's a charming guy right there."

"Look, you're allowed to say stuff to me," Weiner said to reporters afterwards. "But if you're going to say vile things about me and my family, you should expect that I'm going to go back at you."

According to a Quinnipiac University poll, Weiner sits in fourth place among Democrats in a mayoral race that he was considered to be a favorite to win. His scandal-rocked summer turned voters away, and now with less than a week before the democratic primary, it seems he has lost all chances at becoming the next mayor of New York City.

The poll suggests that New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio currently leads the pack after City Council Speaker Christine Quinn had a 27-21 edge in July. New York City Comptroller William Thompson, Jr. has 20 percent of the vote and is in third place.

The man who argued with Weiner, Saul Kessler, was later contacted by CNN as the network asked him to discuss his heated exchange.

"It's just a certain feeling I have as a Jew," said the 51-year-old real estate manager, explaining his remark. "And my attitude is that -- not all Arabs -- but, in general, ... they want to kill every Jew."
