'Orange Is The New Black' Cast News Update 2014: The Real Alex From ‘OITNB’ to Write a Memoir
Cleary Wolters, whose image is personified through Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black" character Alex Vause, is gearing up to release her own memoir about the events leading up to her arrest and her experiences in prison, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
The Netflix show, "Orange Is the New Black," is originally based off of Wolters' ex-lover Piper Kerman's memoir of the same name. Kerman is personified through the Netflix series' character Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling.
Now Wolters is following in Kerman's footsteps by writing her own memoir, titled "Out of Orange."
"Alex [the character] and Piper have inspired me to tell my whole story -- an unbelievable saga that takes place all over the world: Africa, Europe, Asia, and the U.S. both in prison and out," Wolters said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. "I think people may be surprised at what happened to me after I turned myself in -- and where my life is now."
"Out of Orange" will be published sometime in May 2015 under HarperOne publishing.
Although the stories and relationship of the characters that represent Wolters and Kerman is often depicted on Netflix's "OITNB," HarperOne publisher Mark Tubber insists that Wolter's memoir will be "even more surprising and eye opening than we had imagined."
"Out of Orange is much more than the background for Orange Is the New Black," Tubber told THR. "I predict it will be one of the top memoirs of next year."
Wolters began to tell her story during an interview with Vanity Fair back in April. The ex-con revealed that she and Kerman never had sex in prison despite Netflix's depiction of a highly sexual relationship between Wolter and Kerman's characters on the show.
"We did not have sex in prison. Not even a little bit," Wolters revealed.
She added, "We were ghosts of the humans we had once been, milling about amongst hundreds of other human ghosts, shackled and chained, prodded through transport centers at gunpoint, moved through holding facilities."
