"Sometimes you make decisions in life, and sometimes these decisions make you." -- a line from "If I Stay," a New Line Cinema/Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures' film based on Gayle Forman's best-selling novel of the same name.

"I think that's super true," actress Chloe Grace Moretz told Latin Post. "I think that every decision I have made in life has been made by the universe, and that's how everything has come together ... I have never forced anything. Sure, I have made some conscious decisions, but I think most of it's just been, I work hard for certain things and it either happens or it doesn't."

Moretz's reflection comes with her growing body of work and coincides with the release of her latest film, "If I Stay," which hits theaters Aug. 22.

Since she was 5 years old, Moretz has been captivating audiences as an adorable and talented kid. She starred in Michael Bay's remake of "The Amityville Horror" opposite Ryan Reynolds, Martin Scorsese's 11 time-Oscar nominated film, "Hugo," alongside Sir Ben Kingsley and Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows," alongside Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Last year, Moretz stretched her acting repertoire by taking on the role of Carrie White in the remake of the cult classic "Carrie," alongside Julianne Moore. She also reprised her role as fan favorite "Hit-Girl" in "Kick Ass 2," the sequel to Matthew Vaughn's cult-classic film, Kick-Ass."

The young talent has been growing up right before our eyes on screen, and while she's still evolving both personally and professionally, the 17-year-old appears to be mature well beyond her years.

In "If I Stay," Moretz reveals the depths that she is willing to go in order to improve her craft.

Moretz, who has never played an instrument before, trained with the cello for her emotional role of Mia Hall, a young, love-struck cellist aspiring to go to Julliard, but is torn when she discovers she's found the love of her life. In an instant, her plans are derailed and her life changes when a car accident leaves her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she is faced with inconceivable news and must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had ever imagined.

"I trained for seven or eight months with the cello ... I would be foolish to say that I actually learned to play the cello, because it takes about 15 years to barely play mediocrely," she explained. "Honestly, it was more to learn the emotionality of it and to feel the vibrations of the cello through your body and your chest and become intimate with the cello."

"As a woman, when you play the cello, when you perform you are wearing a dress, so you're basically holding this object in between your legs and you're in a dress. It's one of the most intimate things you can do," Moretz said.

While Moretz has joked in various interviews about having a professional, fill-in musician play the cello with her head pictured in the shot, she deserves credit for trying to train with the challenging instrument. Moretz gained an appreciation for the "discipline, technicality and symbolic sounds" it takes to create classical music.

"I can hear sounds, pitches and notes pretty well. In that sense, I am not tone-deaf," she pointed out. "The thing with the cello is it's all frets, so you have to learn from memorization."

In the film, classical music unexpectedly meshes with rock music. Mia resigns herself to becoming a groupie, since her boyfriend Adam (Jamie Blackley, "Snow White and the Huntsmen") is in a rock band destined for superstardom. Blackley, who "dabbles in the guitar" and has appeared in musicals, is convincing in his role.

In real-life, Moretz says she was never a groupie, but admits she was "obsessed" with Lady Gaga when she was 11 years old. "I wore shirts with her face on it, I learned her dance moves. That was the most obsessed I've ever been with an artist."

Besides the influences of classical and rock music, the pangs of young love and college decisions, "If I Stay" also highlights the unconditional love of family and asks some challenging life-or-death questions.

"Making this movie made me even more appreciative of my family and my life. Every time you finish a phone call or finish a fight, try and never finish it on a wrong note because you never know what could be the last moment in your lifeb... and that resonated heavily with me," Moretz said.

"If I Stay," also stars Mireille Enos (TV's "The Killing," "World War Z"), Joshua Leonard ("Higher Ground"), and Stacy Keach ("Nebraska"), as well as Liana Liberato , Aisha Hinds, Jakob Davies and Gabrielle Rose.

This September, Moretz will begin production on the sci-fi action film "The Fifth Wave," starring in the lead role of Cassie Sullivan. Based on the popular novel, the film is scheduled for release in early 2016. The same month she will be seen opposite Denzel Washington in Antoine Fuqua's crime thriller "The Equalizer." In the fall, she can be seen alongside Charlize Theron in "Dark Places," an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling thriller.
