BBC 'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date & Premiere: Christmas Special and Three New Episodes Planned for Moriarty's Return
The latest spoilers and news about Season 4 of BBC's "Sherlock" seem to indicate that Jim Moriarty, the archnemesis of Holmes, will be returning next season, Christian Post reported. There are some very strong speculations that his continuous obsession with the sleuth would be the cause of his return.
Even Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty, was quite surprised with how fans portray his relationship with Sherlock, especially in fan fiction. The 37-year old Irish actor did admit that that the two characters are obsessed with each other.
Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the showrunners of "Sherlock" clarified some of the rumors over the possible return of Moriarty, saying that they've planned for Moriarty's return ever since Season 2 and have discussed it with the actor as well, according to IB Times. However, with individual cast members such as Benedict Cumberbatch working on their own projects, the premiere date of Season 4 is not yet certain.
According to rumors, Cumberbatch is busy working on the latest installment of the "Star Wars" movie, and he is also said to voice Shere Khan in the film adaptation of "The Jungle Book" by Warner Bros. There are hints that actor Martin Freeman, who plays Dr. John Watson in Sherlock will have a standalone series based on his character.
Producers are assuring the public that they are close to having the filming schedule fixed despite the busy schedules of the main cast. The previous schedule still stands -- a Christmas special in 2015 and a Season 4 premiere in 2016, which will have three episodes. Gatiss had announced previously that Sherlock and John Watson will be venturing into darker and deeper waters than ever before for the coming season, so he is very excited about it. They are giving fans enough details to keep them on their toes but nothing more.
