MTV VMAs Recap 2014: Best & Worst Dressed Stars of the Night [Photos]
The MTV Video Music Awards took place on Sunday night, and the fashion choices ranged from flawless to dubious.
In a show that didn't have too many wild performances, it is the fashion that really took center stage. From Nicki Minaj's wardrobe ensemble to Taylor Swift's surprising one piece outfit, the fashion was one to remember.
Worst Dressed
Iggy Azalea wore a shimmery silver Versace gown to the award show. Though it had many elements of a winning dress, it just fell short. The dress puckered, and the shiny embellishments did not look luxe.
Amber Rose tried to pull off a Rose McGowan, but it was just not executed in the best way. It didn't stand out in the way McGowan's dress did, and it also wasn't a particularly good look.
Victoria Justice tried to go on trend with a crop top, but that's about the only thing that works from her look. Justice went for a lot of trends, and the tiered, ruffled skirt and the hashtag bag just go overboard. Taking away the skirt for something a little more streamlined could have saved this look.
Jessie J's look was sort of boring. This isn't the award show to go conservative, and though the color and dress material look pretty, it is sort of out of place at the MTV VMAs.
Ariana Grande rocked her performance, but on the red carpet, it was a different story. The leather look wasn't so much for the red carpet. It would work for the stage, though.
Best Dressed
Solange Knowles is one of the few women who went for pants. She chose a sparkling suit that would be really hard for many people to pull off, but it really flatters Knowles.
There was only one word for Beyonce last night: flawless. Every outfit she wore was amazing, but her red carpet dress was her best look. The black Nicolas Jebran dress was sparkly and showed just the right amount of skin.
Kelly Rowland was also dressed in a great outfit. The pregnant singer absolutely glowed in an ethereal gown. She kept it very simple with the styling and just accessorized with a chunky braid.
Taylor Swift certainly stood out last night, but her best look was her stage outfit. The two-piece outfit was everything Taylor Swift should be: fun, sassy, young and slightly sexy.
Gwen Stefani proved that she's a showstopper. Her pink and black outfit was different and in theme for this award show. She even had a bit of fun with her hair. She was easily one of the best dressed of the night.
Honorable Mention
The look is not good, but it is funny. Perry and Riff Raff decided to pay homage to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, and it was one of the best red carpet moments.
