Pokemon Games Online 2014: New 'Pokken Tournament' Arcade Fighting Game Announced [Watch]
The Pokemon Company has announced a new fighting game called Pokken Tournament.
The game, which will be available in Japan, will give players a new experience, said Tsunekazu Ishihara, the head of the Pokemon Company.
The game is being developed by Namco Bandai.
"Whether you are a casual player, a regular player or a hardcore player, anyone who likes Pokemon can have fun," Katsuhiro Harada of Namco said.
The game was described as "closer to an action game."
Pokken Tournament will be aimed at adult fans.
"For adult Pokemon fans, because we got our best developers, we made the best graphics, and created the best action game, so please!" Masaaki Hoshino said. "Please look forward to this!"
The game will be released in Japanese arcades sometimes in 2015, but it probably won't make it in the same format to the United States. Still, it has not yet been announced whether or not it will be on a Nintendo platform, notes Forbes.
Bandai Namco has plenty of experience with arcade fighting games, since it has been responsible for the Tekken series.
A trailer was also released to show what can be expected from the two-player arcade game. The first look features a battle between two fighting type pokemon, Lucario and Machamp. There isn't any more information on what other characters will be available.
The Pokemon Company talked about having a "shocking" announcement, but because the game was teased in 2013 at the Pokemon Game Show, it was more or less expected.
Pokken is just one more game that Pokemon fans in Japan and elsewhere can anticipate. In November, gamers worldwide will be able to play Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Unlike Pokken, these games are not original. They are remakes of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, which were originally released in 2002.
