Landon Donovan will play his final game for the United States men's national team as the soccer star was called up to play in their upcoming international friendly against Ecuador on Oct. 10 in East Hartford, Connecticut.

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati announced that national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann included Donovan in the squad to give the fans a chance to express gratitude to the talismanic midfielder, who spent 15 years donning the national colors.

"For 15 years, Landon has thrilled us with his amazing abilities on the field and impressed us with his gracious approach off the field," Gulati said on Tuesday via USSoccer.com. "We are looking forward to celebrating his legacy during our next home National Team match and allowing fans the opportunity to thank him for all the memories he's provided over the years."

The 32-year-old striker, who announced earlier this month that he will retire after the Major League Soccer season, is excited to play one-last time in front of US soccer fans.

"Playing for the U.S. National Team has been a huge part of my career and I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to play for my country one last time," Donovan said.

Donovan, who is USMNT's all-time leader in goals with 57 and assists with 58, added that he will also take the opportunity to thank all fans, who supported him and the entire team during his 15-year international career.

"I'm so grateful to all the fans that have supported me and this game will give me the chance to say thank you to all of them," Donovan said. "I look forward to a great evening and I'm thankful to U.S. Soccer for making this happen."

It will be interesting to see how Donovan will play under Klinsmann following the exchange of words between them before the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Klinsmann decided to cut Donovan from the Brazil tournament, saying that he felt he made the right decision for the sake of the team. The LA Galaxy star fired back, reiterating that he should have been included in the squad that reached the knockout stages of this year's World Cup.
