FX Orders New Comedy Series By Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K.
Fox cable channel FX has ordered a new series from comedians Louis C.K. and Zach Galifianakis about clowns of all things. The 10 scheduled episodes of "Baskets" will be co-written by the two funnymen and will star Galifianakis.
Chip Baskets (Galifianakis) is a man who leaves a corporate job to dedicate to a career as a professional clown, and after he gets rejected from an elite clowning school in Paris, he is forced to take work in the rodeo.
C.K. and Galifianakis will also be the show's executive producers, the pilot was written with the help of Saturday Night Live's Jonathan Krisel, who will be a show runner.
Eric Schrier, one of FX's presidents of original programming, said the trio of writers have "created an absolutely brilliant show,"
"To say Zach's portrayal of the lead character Chip Baskets is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement," Schrier added to Rolling Stone. "We can't wait for the world to meet him."
"Baskets" is scheduled for production next year and will premiere in 2016. Louis C.K. secured the pilot for the series as part of his C.K.'s new production deal with the FX network. The agreement doesn't cover C.K.'s series, "Louie," though it does allow him to find new writing and production talent to generate shows for the FX network.
C.K. was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series at last Monday's Emmy Awards, among the three awards the show was nominated for, and his hit series "Louie" has returned after 18 months off the small screen.
Galifianakis has been working on several projects recently. Besides Funny or Die viral clips starring seemingly everyone in Hollywood, he was seen in Kevin Drew's "You in You Were" video and will appear in Alejandro González Iñárritu's movie "Birdman."
