Country singer Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher made the announcement on Sept. 1 (Labor Day) that Carrie is expecting her first child with Fisher, US Weekly reports.

The very cute Instagram photo said, "In honor of 'Labor' Day, Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn't be happier." Carrie was shown holding her two dogs that were wearing shirts printed with "I'm going to be a big sister" and "I'm going to be a big brother." The announcement was also confirmed by the singer's publicist.

American Idol alumnus Carrie Underwood, 31, and her professional hockey player husband, 34-year-old Mike Fisher, were married in a Southern-style wedding in Georgia on July 2010. Fisher plays center for the Nashville Predators, and they've just celebrated their fourth anniversary a couple of months back.

After winning American Idol in 2005, Carrie Underwood shot to fame. She's already won six Grammy Awards and has sold over 15 million albums around the world. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to win the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year Award twice.

Underwood is scheduled to co-host the Country Music Association Awards this November with Brad Paisley.

Mike Fisher also used the social network to make his own announcement. He tweeted that they haven't picked out any names yet, but he is partial to the name Fly, likely suggesting he is hoping that their firstborn will be a boy.

Fisher is recovering from a ruptured left Achilles tendon and will likely miss the start of the NHL season.

Carrie Underwood is due to give birth in the spring. She admitted in an interview that she'd love to have two kids, but she's also fine with three or four but will definitely say no to five.

Incidentally, her hit song was entitled "Mama's Song," and it is expected to take on a different meaning to the blonde country singer.
