Facebook Server Down & Outage: Social Media Network Temporarily Goes Down; Service Restored
Social media network Facebook went down on Wednesday for roughly 20 minutes.
The outage caused an outpour of posts discussing the disruption on other social media sites. On Twitter, the hashtag #Facebookdown began trending as users and celebrities alike tweeted about the site being offline.
When attempting to load Facebook, a generic error page appears stated, "Sorry, something went wrong."
The volumes of complaints and confusion posted on Twitter ranged from the majority simply asking if it was an error on their computer or mobile phones to companies taking advantage to the trending topic for advertising.
"Is Facebook down AGAIN?" Jonathan Cheban of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" fame said. "Or is it just my Wifi???"
Cheban's comment may have referenced another instance of Facebook failure earlier in the summer. In early August, the site experienced similar difficulties across digital and mobile access. After 45 minutes, some connectivity with Facebook returning, but the pages loaded exceptionally slow according to Tech Crunch.
"If Facebook gets to take a break, you should too," sandwich chain Jimmy John's posted. "Go get a sammich."
Some even reflected on the irony of taking to social media to report when social media is down.
"Things to do when Facebook is down: Tweet that Facebook is down. Things to do when Facebook is up: Tweet that Facebook is up," @nicole shared.
Eventually, Facebook pages were loading Wednesday afternoon. Loading between pages and searching was slow, but the site was restored.
