'Saturday Night Live' Season 40 Premiere and Cast: Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande to Star in Premiere
Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande are reportedly set to open the upcoming Season 40 premiere of NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
The chart-topping duo will take the stage on Sept. 27 to presumably perform their hit collaboration "Problem." "The premiere is currently geared for Iggy Azalea," an insider revealed to HollywoodLife.com.
Another source confirmed that the "Break Free" singer, who will not host the late-night comedy show, is slated to appear as a musical guest accompanying the "Fancy" rapper on the same episode.
In addition, Chris Brown is in talks to perform on "SNL" in October to promote his highly anticipated, much delayed sixth studio album "X," which is scheduled for a release on Sept. 16. "In support and promotion for 'X,' Chris will be doing the typical promotional slate to get the word out that the album is coming and that will include appearances and performances on both 'SNL' and 'DWTS,'" a source claimed.
"Everyone is very excited for this to happen and Chris really wants to make the appearances very memorable," the source continued. "Should be a very fun time." The source added that the "Loyal" singer is considered for "performance purposes only," and "They will not be tapping him to host."
Taylor Swift is another artist who is lined up for "Saturday Night Live" gig. She recently released hip hop-inspired single "Shake It Off" and is currently working on promoting the release of her forthcoming fifth studio album "1989."
"She is going to focus on TV and late night shows to start," an insider revealed. "She'll be on all the late night shows ... the morning shows and everything in between in October and November."
"To also support the album, she is almost guaranteed a spot on 'SNL' this season as a host and musical guest," the insider added.
