New iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Ad Stars Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake
As usual, Apple marked the announcement of the newest iPhone on Tuesday with a well-attended and heavily cheered keynote address.
But the company also used some celebrity muscle to unveil the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, according to a report from Mashable. Both Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake starred in a commercial for the new devices, which are the two biggest phones Apple has ever made.
The ad is available only on the Apple website and can be seen here.
For those of you who watched the ad, you could be forgiven for not recognizing Fallon and Timberlake. The commercial really only shows their hands while they sing the theme song from cult film "2011: A Space Odyssey."
The message Apple wants you to get from the commercial is "bigger is better." The company has been under pressure to deliver a phone with a larger display - to cater to foreign markets where iPhones don't sell as well as they do in the U.S. And Apple delivered.
The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen. For comparison, the previous iPhone, the 5S, had a 4-inch display.
Pricing for the iPhone 6 starts at $199 for the 16GB version, jumping to $299 for the 64GB version and $399 for the 128GB version. The iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299 for the 16GB version, rising to $399 for the 32GB version and $499 for the 128GB version, Yahoo Tech reported. Those prices require a two-year contract with a wireless provider.
The new iPhones will go on sale to the public on Sept. 19 and will be available for preorder on Sept. 12.
At Tuesday's keynote address, Apple also pulled the cover off Apple Pay, which will allow iPhone users to pay at participating by tapping their device, and the Apple Watch, which is Apple's take in wearable technology.
