One Direction's free track "Fireproof," off their eagerly awaited upcoming fourth studio album "FOUR," breaks download record.

The British boyband recently announced their new album release on OneDirectionMusic.com Monday: "We're so excited to announce our fourth album, 'FOUR'! We've worked incredibly hard writing and recording it whilst we've been on the road and we couldn't have done it without your support."

In celebration, the "Midnight Memories" hitmakers also offered fans with a free download song.

"As a special thank you for everything you guys have done for us, we wanted to give you 'Fireproof' - it's a track from the album and you can get it for free right now," they said. "You'll be able to download it for free for the next 24 hours. We hope you enjoy it and we can't wait for you to listen to the album in full. Thank you, you guys mean the world to us."

According to Columbia (via Billboard), the track written by Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne with the help of John Ryan, Jamie Scott and Julian Bunetta was downloaded 1.1 million times worldwide -- which is incomparable to typical free single download of 300,000 on average.

Moreover, the new song has topped 67 of the iTunes Store's country-specific album pre-order lists. Twitter also reported that there were 1.7 million tweets about it on Sept. 8 through 6 p.m., generating 5,369 tweets per minute at its high point.

Niall Horan took to his Twitter account in excitement:
