In a new music video, Chris Brown and Ariana Grande star in a duet as medieval-era loves. The track, "Don't Be Gone Too Long," is off of Brown's new album "X," which will be released next week.

"Don't Be Gone Too Long" is a pulsing duet that both singers sing in unified harmony. The accompanying music video was released Friday night.

Announcing the video's debut, Brown tweeted a link to the video and said he had directed the visuals, adding that he "wanted to do something different."

Different indeed, the 25-year-old R&B singer plays the role of a hero in the video who has to rescue Grande, 21, who is trapped in a high tower after being captured by soldiers. Brown is imprisoned and must break free to find his lost love.

The "Loyal" singer and "Problem" crooner share several scenes where they are sweetly holding each other. However, there is no happily-ever-after in this fantasy music video -- it abruptly ends when a knight discovers the pair together.

In one clip of the video, Grande appears as a ballerina. Sneak peeks of the "Don't Be Gone Too Long" video shoot had been shared via Grande's Instagram, one included a photo of her with her ballet slippers.

"They'll be tied properly for the video shoot I promise ... lol," she captioned the picture.

Another Instagram photo, posted in February, showed the two performers dancing together. Brown also gives ample solo screen time to show off these signature dance moves.

It's a unique pairing among celebrity singers; Brown's personal life is constantly in the tabloids, while Grande tries to keep mum about her dating life, although she is rumored to be seeing rapper Big Sean. Both of their music does however flirt between pop, R&B and hip-hop genres.

"X" drops Sept. 16 in stores and online.
