Chris Brown Hot New Album Release 2014: 'Drunk Texting' Singer Releases 'X' [Listen]
Chris Brown finally released his highly anticipated, much delayed sixth studio album "X" on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and it is undoubtedly his best album yet.
The R&B star took to his Instagram account to announce the release of his brand new LP "featuring 5 #1 hits" with an accompanying video.
"Team Breezy #XTheAlbum out now!" he wrote the caption.
"X" was originally set for a late 2013 release, on the heels of his first single "First China." However, the 25-year-old was charged with assault in Washington, D.C. -- a parole violation that led to stints in rehab and 108 days in jail -- unfortunately postponing the release date. Although he was behind bars, his summer hit "Loyal" peaked at No. 9 of Billboard Hot 100.
Brown's latest project most definitely has several potential hits and is full of features from some of the hottest recording artists today, including Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Tyga, Trey Songz, Usher, Rick Ross, Jhene Aiko and more.
Chris Brown previously discussed what direction he was taking with the new record.
"For this album, I wanted to have the same mentality as I did with the first album -- me being green, me not thinking I know what's hot and what's next, me just being Chris Brown," he told MTV back in March last year. "I think this will show my vocal ability a lot more. I've developed a falsetto, I can sing at a higher register, and I can elaborate more on my skill."
The "Drunk Texting" singer also elaborated on the significance of the album title.
"The song and the album title 'X' has a couple different meanings," he said. "It can refer to an ex-girlfriend, in terms of you always look forward to moving forward from. It's also about being a reject in a sense. In me being myself, being able to grow up, me not always hanging around the right crowd or doing the right thing all the time -- it's me saying, I'm over it. I'm past the bullsh*t -- now."
