'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Reboot: Sony to Release Another Version of Popular 1997 Film?
The 1997 horror flick "I Know what You Did Last Summer," starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe, is reportedly getting remade.
Though 20 years have not even passed since the first movie was released, Sony Pictures may be bringing it back, according to Deadline.
"Oculus" co-writer and director Mike Flanagan is tied to the project. The original movie was based off of Lois Duncan's book from 1973.
In the first movie, four friends accidentally run over a person, and instead of telling anyone, they decide to hide the body. A year later they get stalked by a killer, who knows what they did.
The 1997 flick had a few sequels, the latest being a 2006 straight-to-DVD movie called "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer." This version didn't feature any of the original cast members, but the 1998 version did.
The reboot is supposed to be released in 2016, and Neal Moritz will produce the movie. Moritz produced the original.
It's not the only '90s movie that is getting a reboot. "Scream" will be returning on the small screen.
The MTV show recently found its stars: John Karna, Carlos Young, Willa Fitzgerald and Amadeus Serafini.
"We are excited to be in business with the formidable Weinstein brothers," President of Programming Susanne Daniels said. "'Scream' is an iconic franchise, and MTV is the perfect network to bring this consistently surprising film to life on television."
The first "Scream" movie came out in 1996.
Unlike "I Know What You Did Last Summer," ax killer haunts only one student in this movie.
The new show will be reimagined for the current time. For example, one of the characters will be the next Steve Jobs, and the show starts with a video going viral.
Wes Craven, who worked on all "Scream" movies, is going to direct the pilot.
