NFL Trade Rumors 2014: Should St. Louis Rams Get Tim Tebow Or One of These 5 Quarterbacks This Season?
St. Louis Rams fans just can't catch a break.
Former No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford is set to miss the entire season with a torn ACL. The Rams are a respectable 1-1 after two games so far this year, but the future doesn't look bright at the quarterback position.
Including this season, Bradford will have missed 31 games in five seasons. The Rams need to find a new quarterback for the future because Bradford just can't stay healthy.
Let's go quarterback shopping:
1. Kellen Moore
Anybody remember this guy? During his time at Boise State, Moore led the Broncos to an incredible 50-3 record. In his four seasons with the team, Moore threw 142 touchdowns and just 28 interceptions. Many football fans doubt whether or not Moore can adjust to the NFL level, but there's only one way to find out, and that's to play him.
Moore is currently a backup on the Detroit Lions behind Matthew Stafford. The Lions are set at the quarterback position, and they should have no problem accepting a draft pick for Moore.
2. Tim Tebow
Tebow hasn't started a game in years, but fans still remember what he did in the NFL. The young Tebow turned around a sorry 1-4 Denver Broncos team that ranked No. 24 in team defense and led them to the postseason. Tebow would then lead that same to a memorable playoff victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers with 316 passing yards and three total touchdowns. Tebow has 29 total touchdowns and just seven interceptions in his career.
The Rams are currently the least valuable team in the NFL, and there's a possibility they could be headed to Los Angeles in a few years. Could Tebow be the financial and on-the-field answer for the Rams?
3. Derek Anderson
Anderson is a fantastic backup quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. Anderson has been in the league since 2005 and he even made a Pro Bowl back in 2007 with the Cleveland Browns. Anderson has shown he can adapt to different systems and coaching styles over the years. The 31-year-old veteran has played for four different teams so far.
Anderson would be a good addition for this season, but not long term. The Rams would still need to find their future franchise quarterback through the draft at year's end. This would be more of a short-term solution.
4. Jimmy Garoppolo
Selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 draft, Garoppolo looked great in the preseason. Granted it was just exhibition play, but Garoppolo looked very good completing accurate passes to his receivers and tight ends. This is a big risk because we haven't seen much of Garoppolo, yet it could be very rewarding because he is just 22 years old.
5. Aaron Murray
Huge risk, but possibly a huge reward.
Murray is the all-time leader in SEC college football history with more than 13,000 passing yards and 121 touchdowns. In the process, he threw just 41 interceptions. He's a Dan Marino-type quarterback, pure in the pocket passing with great power and accuracy. He played four memorable seasons at Georgia, completing more than 62 percent of his passes.
So what's the problem? In Murray's final season at Georgia, he tore his ACL in his left knee and wasn't drafted until the fifth round by the Kansas City Chiefs. Drafting Murray would be a huge risk because of that injury, but it could pay off if he can stay healthy.
