Sept. 26 will the mark the premiere of Denzel Washington's "The Equalizer," a new crime and action film based on the 1980s hit television series by the same name.

According to the movie synopsis, Washington plays a deadly vigilante hero by the name of Robert McCall who goes to great extents to save a young girl being abused.

The movie is directed by Antoine Fuqua, the man who directed "Training Day" in 2001, which led to Washington's first Oscar win for the Best Actor award. Now, 13 years later, the pair has teamed up for another action-packed film.

"In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life," states the synopsis, according to ComingSoon.net.

"But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by -- he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer."

Washington's character can best be described as cold and calculated, but relentlessly passionate about seeking justice.

A sneak peek video teases just how intense the new film will be. In the clip, McCall tries to negoiate Teri's freedom with Russian gangsters by making them an offer of $9,800. However, instead of taking no for an answer, he launches a strategic and violent attack in order to get the information he needs to save her.

The film is based on a American TV series starring Edward Woodward that aired from 1985 to 1989, reports Yahoo! Movies.
