Twerking enthusiast and singer Miley Cyrus could face fines or jail time in Mexico after she desecrated the nation's flag during a concert. The singer appeared whip her fake butt with the tricolored Mexican flag.

Miley Cyrus's concert in Monterrey, Mexico, was going like any other Miley Cyrus concert, replete with twerking and bizarre acts by back up dancers; however, one moment raised more than eyebrows. According to Fox News Latino, during Cyrus' performance, she appeared wearing large fake buttocks -- nothing out of the ordinary for Miley -- but then a backup dancer appeared to be whipping her fake butt with the Mexican flag.

The concert is part of Miley's world Bangerz Tour, and though full of antics, she has never incurred the ire of a nation. Throughout social media, fans asked whether the American singer should be tried under Mexico's laws regarding misuse of national symbols.

According to the AFP, a conservative member of the Nuevo Leon state congress, which represents Monterrey, claimed her actions were disrespectful against Mexico.

"They are hitting her with the flag, or cleaning her backside. It's a lack of respect," lawmaker Francisco Trevino Cabello said, after the legislature voted to sanction Cyrus. "The interior ministry must sanction the singer Miley Cyrus for desecrating the flag."

However, the fine of $1,270 or the 36-hour jail time would not affect Miley directly but rather the company that brought the singer to Mexico, Zignia Live. There has been no news on whether the Mexican government will follow through.

Yet, this is not the first time a singer has gotten in trouble with Mexican authorities over a mishandling of the nation's flag. Mexican authorities also charged Mexican singer and superstar Paulina Rubio after she appeared naked and wearing the Mexican flag on the cover of a Spanish magazine, according to El Universal.

She paid a fine of 53,000 pesos in 2008 when the incident happened.
