Oscar De La Hoya was recently inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame, and the boxing legend revealed in an exclusive interview that it won't be possible without the inspiration from his family.

In a one-on-one interview with Mario Lopez, De La Hoya said that his father influenced him to learn boxing -- not because his father wants him to become a world champion one day, but only to learn how to protect himself.

De La Hoya said that his father asked him to go the gym. And when he started learning the basics of boxing, De La Hoya said: "I instantly like it. I fell in love with boxing. And that's where it all started."

The East Los Angeles, California native said that his hard-working father became an inspiration to him. Although, they did not have too much communication, boxing made them closer to each other.

"A hardworker, working 16 hours a day," De La Hoya said when asked to describe his father. "We really didn't have too much communication. The only communication we had was when he would take me to the gym. That was kind of like our bonding, boxing."

"It was a good childhood, a good relationship, but no so close the way I will have it now with my kids. I know he loves me dearly, and he'll do anything for me," De La Hoya added.

The 41-year-old's exclusive interview with Mario Lopez will air on Thursday at 10 p.m. EST on NUVOtv.

In the one-on-one talk, the Hall of Famer will say in detail how his family played a great role in his development and maturity as a boxer.

De La Hoya, who first made a name for himself when he won the gold medal in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, will also open up about the fighters that he did not want to face in the ring and how alcohol addiction almost ruined his illustrious career.
