Dubai is used to high-end cars of excessive luxury. The new custom gold-plated Lamborghini, however, is in its own category when it comes to price and extravagance.

This Lamborghini Aventador LP-700-4 was carved out of a block of gold that weighed 500 kilograms. The completed Lamborghini contains 25 kilograms of gold, which by itself is worth just under $1.2 million. With a $7.5 million starting auction price, the golden vehicle has broken the record for the most expensive car in the world. According to the seller, the precious gemstones and metals of the sports car are valued at $2.4 million alone.

According to Lamborghini, the vehicle "is indeed a very sound investment in precious metals and gemstones," and there is "enormous potential for this value to increase significantly."

In addition to fancy jewels, the Lamborghini also has an interesting design. Its contours resemble a fighter-jet.

The Aventador is not all looks. The car features a V12 engine that makes 700 bhp. Whoever ends up owning the car will be able to go from 0mph to 100 mph in 2.9 seconds.

Even more unique, is the number of records the Lamborghini breaks; three to be exact. In addition to breaking the Guinness Book of World Records' most expensive model car record, the gold-plated Lamborghini also gets the title of most luxurious logo and most secure showcase, which it earned with its bulletproof glass.

A drivable gold-plated Lamborghini has not actually been made. Currently, there is a prototype on display in a Dubai showroom (with security, of course.) After a buyer is secured for the sports car, he or she will be able to make their own customizations on their pricey new vehicle.

According to a Lamborghini spokesperson in Dubai who spoke with CNBC, the car has been on display for a week but has yet to receive any offers.

$650,000 from the sale of the gold-plated Lamborghini will be donated to charity.

Those who are looking to spend a little bit less on their luxury sports car can check out the recently revealed 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51. The car starts at $53,000, which compared to the gold-plated Lamborghini, is quite budget-conscious.
