The youth (and adults) of China can finally legally play an imported video game system after Xbox One debuted in the country Monday. This comes after a 14-year ban on video game consoles by the Chinese government.

The Xbox One system was originally scheduled for a Sept. 23 release but delays caused the system to be halted until Monday.

Once the console ban was lifted in September 2013, Microsoft knew it was their chance to get their systems on the shelves on Chinese retailers.

In China, there are more gamers in the country than the entire U.S. population. Surely, there is a market for Xbox One there. And, for now at least, they have the advantage of being the only mainstream system in the country because Nintendo and Sony have not yet decided to enter China.

As of Monday, Chinese gamers will be able to choose from 10 titles for the Xbox One console:

  • Forza Motorsport 5
  • Kinect Sports Rivals
  • Powerstar Golf
  • Zoo Tycoon
  • Max: The Curse of Brotherhood
  • Dance Central Spotlight
  • Neverwinter Online
  • Rayman Legends
  • Trials Fusion
  • Naughty Kitties

However, games like Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Ghosts and other violent titles are not, and probably will not be available in China for the Xbox One because of strict guidelines and traditions the Chinese government has. Games have to first be approved by the local culture department in Shanghai, and if they are too violent or create a negative impact on Chinese culture and tradition, they will not be sold.

The price of an Xbox One console in China is approximately $602 American Dollars for a console without Kinect and about $700 for a console with Kinect.
