The initial surge is over. Over 10 million people bought the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus during opening weekend, but that does not mean that people are done buying it.

If you or someone you know is still in the market for an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, there is a tool that helps you find the availability for one. iDeviceChecker.com checks inventory at major retailers and then shows you exactly where you can purchase the new phone as well as other major Apple products like the older iPhones and the iPad.

iDeviceChecker is pretty accurate. A check was done at Target and Best Buy to confirm the accuracy of iDeviceChecker and the numbers that iDeviceChecker was reporting were in line with those two retailers' numbers.

Here is another great grid that tells you if the iPhone model that you want is available at your favorite Apple Store across the U.S.

An easy way to ensure you can get an iPhone is by doing an online order through either your phone carrier or a major retailer like Best Buy. The Apple Store also takes orders online.

The Apple Store online is showing availability of 7-10 business day shipping for the iPhone 6. For the iPhone 6 Plus, they are showing the devices will not arrive for 3-4 weeks to a customer's home.

You may have the best luck by using your carrier to fulfill the order for you. They may quote you a long timeframe for you to receive it, but typically the phone will come faster than you are quoted. A friend of mine was quoted 3-4 weeks for his iPhone 6 Plus, but he received in about 10 days after he ordered it from Apple.com.

Also, in China, the iPhone 6 is coming. The people in China will be able to start pre-ordering the phones Oct. 10 and they will be available Oct. 17.
