Here's our breakdown of how the Kindle 8.9-inch HDX stacks up against the Surface Pro 3.

Pros and Cons of the Kindle 8.9" HDX

The Kindle 8.9-inch HDX has evolved to be a sturdier and slimmer model than that of its predecessors. It has introduced a primary camera and a boosted processor and GPU system. The introduction of software like Mayday tech support and Second Screen has rendered it more attractive to audiences.

The price range is questionable, and although the Kindle Fire line has taken a legitimate leap into the HDX version, the $80 hike from its predecessor may not be acceptable to everyone. Moreover the Fire OS is still factually incompetent when compared with Android OS.

Pros and Cons of the Surface Pro 3

The Surface Pro 3 as claimed by Microsoft is a hybrid of a computer and tablet. With its type cover it's possible for it to replace any computer. The 10-point multi-touch screen is a gamer's paradise and the 3:2 aspect ratio has thrust the HD display into a new paradigm.

However, for a slate tablet it is way too bulky. After complaints from users over software bugs, Microsoft released a patch that did little to improve the issues. The type cover needs to be bought separately and is a tad too costly.

Talking Points

Amazon in a very short period of time has managed to upgrade the processor and GPU of the Kindle 8.9-inch HDX. It got quite a good response when the original Kindle 8.9-inch HDX was launched in the holiday season, thus it did the same to the upgraded version and pre-order started on Sept. 17.

Microsoft has proudly claimed to be the pioneer of the PC/tablet genre with the launch of its Surface Pro 3. Most of the suppliers went out of stock very quickly, just as anticipated. But what was not anticipated was the overheating, Wi-Fi connectivity and the app issues. To address those issues Microsoft released a patch version in September.

Prices:

The Kindle 8.9-inch HDX comes with the price starting at $379.

The market price of the Surface Pro 3 ranges from $799 to $1949 depending on the versions.

Conclusion: The Kindle 8.9-inch HDX has everything an ideal tablet lover needs. But if you are really keen on transforming your laptop into a tablet on your beck and call, the Surface Pro 3 is your device.
