Tetris Movie in the Works: Joins Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed, Lara Croft and Angry Birds on List of Game-Inspired Films
It's not a hoax: There will indeed be a Tetris movie. And no, it is not about shapes and lines, as a lot of skeptics were predicting. Larry Kasanoff, the producer for the movie Tetris, said that it is actually going to be based on a storyline in the science fiction genre.
As one of the most popular games ever, Tetris is a puzzle game that was started in the '80s by developer Alexey Pajitnov, a programmer based in the Soviet Union. It was easy to understand and easy to learn, making the game massively popular across all ages and generations. Addictive and challenging, it gained widespread popularity on both PC platforms and mobile platforms.
The geniuses behind the Tetris movie will be the same minds who were responsible for the Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network shows, such as "Rise of Rookies," "Bionicle: The Legend Reborn," "Lego: Atlantis" and "Lego: The Adventures of Clutch Powers." The same production company has also produced some popular movies, including the Mortal Kombat series' first two movies.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Larry Kasanoff, the chief executive of Threshold Entertainment, said that the Tetris movie would be about the story behind the world of Tetris. He refuses to divulge any information with regard to the release date, cast or the when production will start. However, he assured Tetris fans that they would not be getting a movie willed with animated graphics but rather a live-action movie.
Tetris will be joining the long list of movies that were adaptations of video games, including Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed, Lara Croft and Angry Birds (which is due for release in 2016).
So for fans of the Tetris game, be on the lookout for the Tetris movie. Although there is no release date as of now and no information on the cast or plot, it will be interesting to watch how it develops.
