'Interstellar' Spoilers, Plot & Trailer: Which Character Will Die in This New Film?
There is exactly a month left before the release of "Interstellar" and the film's plot has been kept discreet. Aside from trailers and a small synopsis, nothing is really known about the movie.
There are multiple questions that audiences and fans want to know and one that continues to be asked is whether or not a character in the movie will die.
Nolan has taken risks in his films and has had multiple females die in his films. In the 2006 film "The Prestige," Rebecca Hall's character Sarah committed suicide and Piper Perabo's Julia drowned during a magic trick.
"The Dark Knight" featured one of his riskiest moves yet as he had the principal female character killed off. Maggie Gyllenhaal's Rachel Dawes was killed when the Joker tricked Batman. Audiences were surprised by the gutsiness of the director and the fact that a studio would even permit that.
"Inception" also featured a female character die multiple times. Marion Cotillard's Mal jumped off a skyscraper and later reappeared multiple times as a vision that haunted Leonardo DiCaprio's Cobb.
Cotillard once again had the honor of dying in "The Dark Knight Rises" as Miranda. After she unveils that she is Talia, the daughter of Ra's al Ghul, Cotillard crashes in a tank and dies.
This year "Interstellar" features two prominent female roles. Anne Hathaway plays a character named Brand who goes on a mission with Cooper. Jessica Chastain plays Cooper's daughter Murph. As aforementioned, little is known but, according to the synopsis, planet Earth has no water and the mission is to find another means for humans to exist.
In the trailer, Cooper's super objective is to see his children once again, which is a bit reminiscent of "Inception." That film ended on a positive note and the character technically was able to see his children again. As a result, it seems improbable that Chastain's Murph would die. The Hollywood system usually likes to have some type of happy ending and Nolan likes to satisfy his audiences. If Murph dies, then most likely audiences would be disappointed.
Hathaway's Brand is more likely to die as she goes on a very challenging mission and in the trailers it seems she is put in very risky situations. One of the lines that continuously comes up in the trailer is "I'm not gonna make it." One wonders is if it is an indication of what the character's fate will be.
However, knowing Nolan, he likes to play with form and perhaps a male character will die this time.
"Interstellar" tells the story of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. The film also stars Matthew McConaughey, David Oyelowo, Wes Bentley, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Ellen Burstyn and Topher Grace.
Paramount is releasing the feature in hopes of obtaining award buzz and hoping it will be the big box office surprise of the year. The feature will also be showcased in IMAX and is rated PG-13 for some intense perilous action and brief strong language.
